Retail chain Zeeman is installing 6,700 solar panels on the roof of its distribution centre in Alphen aan de Rijn. The solar panels should generate an amount of power equal to the consumption of 450 households.

The solar panels will be completed in mid-April and are expected to generate 1.5 million kilowatt hours annually. To install the panels, Zeeman appealed to the 2014 SDE+ subsidy scheme. This subsidy is intended for companies that want to invest in renewable energy.

Zeeman has more than 1,250 shops in the Benelux, Germany, France, Austria and Spain. From its distribution centre in Alphen aan den Rijn, the non-food chain supplies all its shops several times a week.
