Employers in the logistics sector are cautiously positive about employment for the next three months. They expect some 2 per cent more employment than last quarter in the transport and warehousing sector.

This is according to research by employment agency Manpower among 58,000 employers worldwide (including 750 Dutch). Compared to the second quarter of 2016, there is a slight decrease of 1 per cent if the expected number materialises.

Overall, employment in the Netherlands is expected to rise by around five per cent in the coming period. Other countries are also optimistic: in 39 of the 43 countries surveyed, employers expect to
people in the coming quarter. Employers in Taiwan (24%),
Japan (23%), Slovenia (22%) and India (18%) are the most optimistic.

Uncertainty
Business and financial services in particular are expected to need more people in the Netherlands: some 12 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2017. Only agriculture can manage with fewer staff, according to those surveyed: there, employment falls by 5 per cent.

Most new jobs are expected in the east and west of the country, but employment is also growing in the south and north of the country. The Dutch elections may bring some uncertainty, but it will not reveal itself until the third quarter of this year, according to researchers.
