A registration system for the transport of goods should give Poland more insight into the number of excise goods passing through the country.
From 1 May, the country plans to introduce such a system, whereby excisable goods such as tobacco products and alcohol are given an ID number prior to transport. Hungary already operates a similar EKAER system. The ID number created digitally has a validity of 10 days and the driver must be able to show it en route.
Small deliveries under 500 kg or litres are exempted from the registration requirement. If the driver does not have an ID number for his transport, he can be fined 46 per cent of the net value of the goods transported, with a minimum of 5,000 euros.
