Online supermarket Picnic says it has secured a "phenomenal amount" from four Dutch family funds. With an investment sum of 100 million euros, it plans to operate nationwide.

Picnic currently mainly delivers groceries in the Utrecht-Amersfoort region, but wants to expand that area. To do so, it needs to build new distribution centres. The aim is to eventually provide work for 10,000 people. In the coming weeks, Picnic will also visit Delft, leidschendam, Veenendaal, Ede, Lelystad, Apeldoorn and Nieuwegein.

The €100 million sum comes from NPM Capital, among others. The money will be put into the company within a three-year period. The online supermarket also received offers from parties abroad, such as Silicon Valley. However, Picnic preferred Dutch funds due to the long-term nature of the investment.
