Jumbo has promised its 3,000 logistics employees a 1.5 per cent pay rise. In doing so, the supermarket chain is responding to the actions taken by unions since last week.
Employees at Jumbo distribution centres had been carrying out punctuality actions since Monday. The employees and union members thus hoped to force Jumbo to still talk about a new collective agreement. The previous collective agreement expired on 1 April. Jumbo itself did not want to negotiate a new collective agreement with the unions until July. As of that time, in fact, the CBA supermarkets and the AH Logistics CBA were concluded. According to the supermarket chain, waiting until 1 July would ensure more equality in the industry.
In a statement, Jumbo says it regrets that the unions did not want to consult and instead bet on actions. With the announcement of the wage increase, the company wants to create clarity for distribution workers. The wage increase will take effect from 1 April. If it becomes clear in the coming period that wages in other collective bargaining agreements for logistics supermarkets are rising faster, Jumbo will implement an additional wage increase retroactively.
