Goodman is building a new distribution centre in Puurs Belgium in collaboration with Fiege and Makro. The new DC is needed due to the growth of Makro, which has outsourced its logistics activities to Fiege.

The new building concerns an expansion of logistics service provider Fiege's existing logistics facility. The current logistics centre consists of 20,600 square metres of warehouse space. The construction of the new multi user warehouse will add another 40,000 square metres of floor space, of which FIEGE Belgium will rent 32,000 square metres. The new building is expected to be ready in November 2017.

With the logistics centre in Puurs, Makro aims to serve both the national market and the Western European market. With its location between Antwerp and Brussels and Belgium's main arteries, Fiege and Makro expect to be able to efficiently manage goods flows there. "Anticipating customers' needs is a necessity," said Pascal van der Linden, CEO of Fiege. "The timing is perfect: in May 2016, Makro decided to centralise its operations, which meant Fiege needed an additional 20,000 square metres of space on top of the already existing space we have available in Puurs Logistic Center. Expanding the site allows us to offer the perfect solution that fits Makro's strategy."

The new distribution centre will be equipped with sustainable applications such as LED lighting with motion sensors and infrared heaters. Optimal use of daylight and reuse of water should reduce energy consumption.
