Picnic will start delivery in Nieuwegein, Ijsselstein and Houten in mid-May. This brings the online supermarket ever closer to national coverage.
Picnic, which until recently only operated in a handful of cities in the Utrecht-Amersfoort region, previously indicated that it plans to enter around 15 new locations this year. For instance, it delivers in Bennekom, Delfgauw, Delft, Den Hoorn, Ede, Leidschendam, Nootdorp, Rijswijk, Veenendaal and Voorburg. From next month, the online supermarket will launch in The Hague. Other medium-sized cities will follow in the second half of this year.
At the end of March, Picnic received an investment sum of 100 million euros from four Dutch family funds. This money will be invested in the company within three years. Picnic wants to use the money to operate nationwide and build new distribution centres. It recently moved into a new distribution centre in Utrecht, tripling its storage capacity. Picnic also has plans for a new automated warehouse.
