Utrecht consumers who place an order with MediaMarkt will have their packages delivered within an hour. The electronics giant brings the orders to the customer by taxi. The latter in turn does not have to pay anything extra for it. The Financieele Dagblad writes that.

Speaking to the newspaper, MediaMarkt managing director Gordon Scholz agreed that the service costs MediaMarkt money. Yet it wants to offer customers a little extra. Partly because shopping centre Hoog Catherijne, where MediaMarkt is located, is undergoing major renovation. Some other branches in the Netherlands also offer hourly delivery. At other branches, the time period has been moved up to three hours. MediaMarkt's aim is that the entire chain will soon be able to deliver within a few hours.

MediaMarkt can offer the lightning-fast delivery because it uses its shop as an inventory warehouse. So orders do not have to be prepared in a central warehouse. "That is unique. Most players have a central warehouse. They can never deliver all over the Netherlands within an hour."

MyTaxi
In 2014, MediaMarkt already introduced the taxi service in Germany. There, it uses the app MyTaxi, where a ride can be requested via the mobile app. The customer receives a confirmation when a driver has accepted the ride. The service in Germany would not be much more expensive for consumers than the regular parcel service.
