Blokker Holding's change of course means the loss of around 800 jobs at its distribution centre in Mijdrecht.

Blokker Holding is selling formulas such as Intertoys, Xenos, Big Bazar and Leen Bakker and will focus entirely on the Blokker retail formula. However, it will close 100 of the 500 Blokker stores. The operation will result in 1,900 job losses, including 800 at the distribution centre in Mijdrecht.

Blokker Holding hopes to avoid further redundancies by selling shop formulas in their entirety. Employees will then move with the new owners. "We realise very well that this announcement will have a major impact on our employees," said chief executive Casper Meijer.

Blokker is leaving its current distribution centre in Mijdrecht. The department store chain Hudson's Bay will move there. Blokker's logistics activities will continue in the existing DC in Geldermalsen. Since 2015, Blokker has also had an e-fulfilment DC in Gouda.
