San Francisco wants to ban delivery robots from its streets. The US city, known precisely for its tech-savy residents, thinks safety for residents will be compromised when its streets are populated by delivery robots. "Our streets and pavements are made for people, not robots," the city government said.

Companies like Starship Technologies do currently test delivery robots in San Francisco . However, these robots are still controlled by humans. Getting the robots to deliver autonomously requires government permission, writes US Recode, and the states of Virginia and Idaho have already given the green light to do so. San Francisco does not seem to be planning to do so.

City politicians have been sitting around the table with companies developing the robots, such as Starship, Dispatch and Marble. However, these talks did not change the city government's mind. Local politicians think the robots pose dangerous situations for the elderly and children. They would not be able to anticipate the robots driving around at a speed of 6 kilometres per hour quickly enough.
