Jungheinrich is extending its warranty on lithium batteries to five years. If the battery has only 65 per cent of its rated capacity left before then, it will be repaired or completely replaced.

The company reports this in a press release. Jungheinrich has been working with lithium-ion technology since 2011 and says it has a lot of experience with the batteries. "That is why we issue the guarantee with confidence," said Oliver Lücke, responsible for product development within the Executive Board.

Jungheinrich now applies lithium-ion technology to more than 90 per cent of its models, and the German group expects the technology to become the standard in material handling in the near future. The batteries are said to be a lot less sensitive than old lead-acid batteries and the charging process is said to be faster than with other batteries. "Moreover, the ease of use and efficiency will entice even more companies to switch their diesel and LPG forklifts to electric equipment."
