Supermarket discounter Lidl is building a second e-commerce distribution centre at Trade Port Noord in Venlo. This writes the regional newspaper De Limburger on the basis of 'several reliable sources'.
Currently, Lidl is still busy building a distribution centre in Roosendaal, which will be operational in 2018. With this, it plans to support its e-commerce activities in Europe. In June 2016, Lidl opened online shops in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, focusing on the sale of non-food products.
According to De Limburger, a second logistics centre, also intended for the group's online activities, is meanwhile being built in Venlo. The mega warehouse is currently under construction on Greenportlane and is located next to Michael Kors' large distribution centre.
It would involve seven hectares of warehouse space, delivered in two phases. The distribution centre will employ 300 to 400 people. Lidl has not yet responded to questions from De Limburger.
