A boost for logistics Netherlands. As the only country in Europe, the Netherlands may store all spare parts for the JSF fighters. According to Minister Kamp, the contract will generate 'several hundred millions in extra turnover for our logistics and distribution sector'.

The US Department of Defence decided on Tuesday to outsource the storage, shipping and management of the spare parts of the four hundred F-35 aircraft to the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The parts will be stored at the Woensdrecht Logistics Centre (LCW).

Some seventy Dutch companies benefit from the Dutch distribution centre. From the LCW, parts are packed and shipped to other European countries. As transport is also by air, the LCW will have an advance post at Schiphol Airport.

Since last year, the Netherlands competed with other partners for the storage and distribution of spare parts. Cooperation association OneLogistics, consisting of Dutch industry, knowledge institutes and the government, was the driving force behind winning the contract. According to Defence, the Pentagon chose the Dutch proposal because of "the integrated approach", which aims to keep logistics costs low, optimise stocks and achieve good availability of F-35 aircraft.
