Amazon is testing a delivery service for third-party sellers in the United States. That reports Bloomberg based on sources close to the etail giant.
By keeping delivery of third-party products in its own hands, Amazon can guarantee that this assortment will be delivered within two days. The delivery project is said to be called 'Seller Flex'. Amazon started testing delivery in India in 2015. For the US rollout, it is said to have since approached several sellers. The test is expected to be expanded to several US states in 2018.
UPS and FedEx are currently responsible for delivering products from third-party sellers. In the future, these courier companies may still be used by Amazon. However, this will then be determined by Amazon and no longer by the selling party.
By keeping delivery in-house, Amazon gains more control over the last mile. It can also save money by transporting large volumes and avoid congestion at its own distribution centres by leaving products in third-party vendors' facilities.
