Hazardous materials are also handled in the warehouse. Sharper focus in 2018 will lead to more inspection. Therefore, entrepreneurs and logistics managers need to be well informed and take timely measures.

From 2018, the European Union will pay extra attention to the EU's 'handling hazardous substances' programme. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment will roll this out in the Netherlands in April. Companies will be obliged to take preventive measures to avoid health damage caused by handling hazardous substances. Awareness and behaviour play an important role in this.

The entrepreneur, logistics manager and employees on the shop floor are often unaware of it, but many hazardous substances are also present in the warehouse. In most companies, no policy is made on it, with all the consequences that entails.

On 30 November, during the Day of the Warehouse at Logistica, safety expert Henk Bril explains what companies will notice from the new approach of SZW and how they should deal with hazardous substances in the warehouse. As safety expert at Sabic and author of columns in Safety! Warehouse and Dangerous Goods, Bril knows better than anyone how to instruct and involve staff in safety.
