Deutsche Telekom and the Fraunhofer-Institut für Materialfluss und Logistik IML in Dortmund opened an IoT development lab. Here, scientists and experts will test IoT products for logistics, aviation and manufacturing.
The lab will investigate which products are ultimately suitable for a market launch on Deutsche Telekom's IoT network. This narrowband radio network would allow information to be transmitted using little energy. The radio technology was developed specifically for IoT networks and would lend itself well to IoT applications in logistics. "The logistics sector has a strong desire for digitisation. There are a number of business processes where companies can add a lot of value in the short term by using IoT solutions," said Deutsche Telekom's Anette Broner. Among other things, logistics service providers would need more transparency in the supply chain to control the flow of goods.
IML will provide hardware and IoT application expertise for the tests. DT focuses on IoT products and cloud services. Companies interested in IoT can also use the research lab.
