Moonen Packaging wants to boost efficient packaging in the chain with its new 'Box on Demand' concept. The recently launched packaging system creates a suitable box for every order.
Moonen Packaging's packaging machine creates up to ten boxes per minute from endless corrugated cardboard. The accompanying software calculates which size box the various products fit into and which layout is best for the user.
Endless corrugated board
According to the Weert-based company, distribution of products in oversized packaging is still the order of the day. Companies are often forced to buy a wide range of packaging materials. "Buying a variety of packaging materials has some major disadvantages. For example, this requires a lot of storage space in the warehouse and organisations generally have little insight into the procurement costs," Gert Tabor, Key Account Manager Industry at Moonen Packaging states in a press release. "For Box on Demand, only one type of packaging material needs to be purchased." By this, Tabor is referring to the endless corrugated board, from which each package is created.
More efficient loading
In addition to saving on packaging costs and filling materials, Moonen Packaging claims the concept also reduces CO2 emissions. "We want to help companies reduce their costs and CO2 emissions within the packaging chain. By packing products with a suitable outer box, trucks are loaded more efficiently and up to twice as many products can be delivered with one trip."
