Wholesaler Udea is shifting its current logistics locations to an automated distribution centre in Veghel. The newly built DC will supply Ekoplaza's organic supermarkets and process online customer orders. Vanderlande will take care of the DC's mechanisation.

The wholesaler now operates from two separate distribution centres, as fresh and dry goods are housed separately. From next year, these departments will be centred at Foodpark Veghel. Construction of the omnichannel DC will start in June.

Vanderlande collaboration

The new DC will accommodate a wide variety of product flows, including dry grocery, dairy, chilled, fresh and frozen products. For the mechanisation of the DC, Udea has chosen neighbouring Vanderlande, also based in Veghel. Vanderlande is implementing the ADAPTO goods-to-man system, for which different temperature zones are fitted. This provides a space-saving solution that can grow with the expansion Udea expects in the coming years.

Cobot technology

In addition, the picking process in the DC will be equipped with SIR (Smart Item Robotics) technology. With this new cobot technology, Udea will mainly pick personal care and cosmetics products for consumers.
