DHL Express is building a new facility at Maastricht-Airport for the delivery and collection of international express shipments in the Limburg region. The new building involves an investment of 7 million euros.

DHL Express' Service Centre will cover an area of over 9,000 square metres in the Aviation Valley business park and will feature an automated sorting facility and 30 docks for loading and unloading delivery vans. In addition to delivery vans and trucks, the facility will also supply a parcycle: a special cargo bike that delivers in Maastricht city centre. More than 60 employees will work there after the opening in the first quarter of 2019.

Self-sufficient and gas-free

The Service Centre will be built and operated according to the BREAAM-NL Outstanding quality mark for sustainable buildings. The building will be equipped with enough solar panels to be self-sufficient in electricity and will be gas-free through connection to the Green Grid, with residual heat from the nearby SABIC naphtha cracker providing heating. Construction is in the hands of construction company Aan de Stegge Twello.

Express shipments for central and southern Limburg

The new location is part of an investment project by DHL, aimed at expanding and renewing the Dutch branch of its international express network. From this Service Centre, DHL will handle the rapidly growing number of express shipments for the whole of central and southern Limburg.
