Amazon is blocking consumers who send products back remarkably often. With this measure, Amazon wants to reduce the number of returns and possibly prevent fraud in product reviews.

Product review fraud

The Wall Street Journal spoke to several consumers who had been barred from the online store by Amazon for returning too many products. In some cases, buyers had been blocked without warning. According to the newspaper, Amazon wants to use this to prevent product review fraud. Third-party sellers would encourage consumers to buy a product, return it and leave a good review.

'Rare cases'

“We want to make it possible for everyone
to use Amazon, but there are rare cases where
someone abuses our service,” a spokesperson
to The Journal. “We take such a measure very seriously,
but with a global customer base of over 300 million
consumers, we must take action when necessary.”
