SPAR is moving into an adjacent distribution centre of Xenos in Waalwijk. The logistical expansion is partly necessitated by the arrival of over a hundred physical shops.
Xenos' distribution centre will become vacant on 1 October, after which SPAR will move into it. The supermarket chain's total storage space will be expanded from 22,5000 to 37,400 square metres when it moves into the new DC. SPAR will use the space to store 4,500 slow-moving groceries. In doing so, it will create additional space in the existing distribution centre for space for chilled items.

The distribution centre in Waalwijk is fully automated, allowing Spar to stock more efficiently. As the number of pick locations is expanded, the supermarket chain can carry a wider and deeper range.
Spar plans to open 100 branches of its Spar Express formula before the end of this year. It recently opened a logistics hub in Heerenveen, from where the stores north of Zwolle will be delivered.
