Robot producer Starship Technologies has received a $25 million (€21.2 million) capital injection to bring the robot to the streets. A new ceo is to take charge of the rollout.
The robots from Starship Technologies, a company from Skype founders Janus Frijs and Ahti Heinia, are designed to deliver orders within half an hour. The robots have a range of up to five kilometres. They deliver autonomously, but are monitored by humans from control centres.
Robots have delivered products in more than 20 countries in recent years. The manufacturer wants to use the growth money to expand further in Europe and the US. In an earlier investment round, Starship Robotics already raised $17 million. It later added another $25 million.
The company has appointed Airbnb's Lex Bayer as its new chief executive officer.
