Trade union FNV has been vindicated in the appeal against IKEA transporter Brinkman. Foreign drivers who carry out international trips from the Netherlands are also covered by the collective agreement. "A very important ruling for international road transport," says FNV.
Subcontractors
IKEA works with Brinkman for transport, which in turn uses subcontractors from Poland and Moldova. "They thought they therefore did not have to comply with the collective agreement and workers' rights and could thus avoid employer charges," said Edwin Altema of the FNV.

Appeal
Earlier, the court ruled in favour of FNV, but Brinkman subsequently appealed, and the Court of Appeal in Leeuwarden has now ruled that the ruling stands and Brinkman must pay a penalty of up to 100,000 euros if the company disregards the collective agreement.
