Emté's distribution centres are closing their doors now that the supermarket chain has been taken over by Jumbo and Coop. The new owners have no interest in the locations in Kapelle and Putten.
Emté has been owned by Jumbo and Coop since the beginning of this year. That Jumbo and Coop wanted to convert the Emté shops was already clear, but it was unknown what was going to happen to the distribution centres. It now appears that Emté's logistics centres do not fit into the new owner's future plans, so the locations in Kappelle and Putten will close their doors in 2019.
Closure of DCs in 2019
The closure of the DC in Kapelle is scheduled for February 2019. The shops that have not yet been converted to the new formula by then will be supplied from the distribution centre in Putten. The curtain will fall for this location in June 2019. Around that time, the head office will also close.
Job losses
The supermarket chain considers it not unlikely that employees will lose their jobs in the coming period. They will, however, be given the opportunity to apply internally for a job at Jumbo or Coop. "We are going to guide employees from job to job as much as possible. For example, outplacement is available and there are training opportunities," Emté stated to the FD. "Employees will also have access to vacancies at the two shareholders: Jumbo and Coop."
