DHL Express has commissioned its first large electric truck in the Netherlands. The base is a MAN truck, which has been fitted with electric drive by Dutch company EMOSS.
The carrier already has several small electric vans and bikes in operation, but is now adding an electric truck to its fleet. The new vehicle is a so-called EMOSS 12-tonne box truck.
DHL deploys the truck for shipments in the centre of Rotterdam. With the electric truck, it picks up and delivers larger shipments. Smaller shipments in the city centre DHL transports by bicycle.
The electric truck is in line with DHL's goal of completely emission-free logistics by 2050. "With this truck, we are showing that even larger shipments are now up for sustainable transport," said Kees de Lange, VP Operations of DHL Express in the Netherlands.
