Lidl has picked its first orders in Oosterhout. The big-box retailer commissioned its largest Dutch distribution centre this week.
Construction of the building involved an investment of ninety million euros. For this, the supermarket chain will have 54 thousand square metres at its disposal. This makes the Oosterhout location one of the largest Lidl DCs in Europe.
From Oosterhout, the discounter supplies some 70 stores in the region. There is room for 35 thousand pallets and 250 employees will work there.
Lidl received BREAAM-NL 'Outstanding' certification for the building. There are 2,700 solar panels on the roof. The LED lighting switches off automatically when there are no people in the room. The building also has a 1 megawatt battery pack. Smart cooling technology allows Lidl to absorb peaks and troughs on the electricity network.
