With a hotline for distribution workers at Jumbo, trade unions FNV and CNV want to take stock of whether there is intimidation on a large scale at the mass retailer.
The unions suspect Jumbo of putting pressure on staff to still sign the labour conditions agreement (avr). With the hotline, FNV and CNV are investigating whether this is actually the case.
Terms of employment
The avr was set up in 2017 after the supermarket chain and unions failed to agree on the new collective labour agreement. Jumbo decided to bypass the unions and agree new terms of employment directly with the works councils. The approximately 3,000 permanent employees at Jumbo Logistics were given a choice between the new avr or the expired collective labour agreement.
FNV and CNV have heard from some employees that Jumbo was and still is taking a coercive approach in this respect. Managers and team leaders are said to be pressuring staff members to sign the avr. At the hotline, distribution workers can tell their stories. "We have the strong impression that Jumbo wants to push this unilateral arrangement through to staff at all costs. That is not acceptable," responded FNV executive Ali Aklalouch.
General pardon
Jumbo introduced a 'general pardon' on Monday for employees who have not yet signed the avr. Logistics employees who did not initially agree to Jumbo's employment conditions scheme will be paid the missed wage increase retroactively if they still support the avr.
