Brand-new Intertoys owner Green Swan no longer wants to ship online orders from one central distribution centre. The chain's physical shops will act as fulfilment centres in the future.

Under the leadership of Green Swan, Intertoys, which went bankrupt in February, will have a completely new identity. The chain is putting more emphasis on experience and service. Only in this way can shops distinguish themselves from online price-fighters, believes ceo Paulo Andres.

Therefore, karaoke studios and escaperooms will be added to Intertoys shops. Items can be rented for birthday parties, for example. "Think five playstations, twenty Spiderman suits and disco lights. Anything we can rent out, we will rent out," Andrez said in an interview with the FD.

220 distribution centres

The ceo also wants to trump big online players like bol.com by shipping online orders from the nearest shop, instead of a central distribution centre. "We will soon have 220 distribution centres, instead of one," he says. As a result, customers can have their parcels in their homes within two hours. For this service, Andrez says it will partner with external couriers. Thinking of a set-up like Deliveroo or Uber.

Dc Waddinxveen

The future of the distribution centre in Waddinxveen is still unclear. Andrez told the FD that Green Swan is negotiating new terms and conditions with all kinds of parties in the coming days. He is referring to the franchisees, but also to the owner of the distribution centre in Waddinxveen.
