Flinders expands its logistics capacity with a 14 thousand square metre location. The new warehouse in Amsterdam offers twice as much space as Flinders' current warehouse.
The home furnishings shop currently operates from one location on Westhavenweg in Amsterdam. It is adding a second location at Atlaspark in the capital. Flinders rents from DHG a building that covers 14 thousand square metres and can be expanded to 19 thousand square metres, where Flinders will be operational from March 2020.
With the new location, Flinders aims to facilitate future growth and further strengthen its market position. Last year, the home furnishing shop recorded strong growth; sales increased from 15 to 20 million euro.
Furniture in stock
Due to the large number of designer furniture Flinders keeps in stock, it can promise customers next-day delivery , which was one of the reasons it won last year's Logistic webshop of the Year title. "Waiting eight weeks for a sofa is passé," coo Oscar Diele explained during that election. "Based on search behaviour on our website, we can predict demand. Smart software then regulates stock. Currently, this allows us to deliver 85 per cent of our orders from stock."
To maintain that standard, expansion is needed. Diele: "Delivering directly from stock - ordered today, may in house - is an important part of our proposition. In order to continue to meet high stock availability and efficient operations, this expansion is necessary."
Algorithms and product data
Flinders says it intends to further automate at the new location, "Furniture logistics will remain human work. Nevertheless, Flinders will further mechanise and automate its logistics. Based on its own algorithms and available product data, each product will get the best, fastest and cheapest logistics solution," Diele said.
