Deutsche Post DHL is selling its stake in StreetScooter, a startup developing electric delivery vehicles. The company is said to be writing red figures.

This reports the German Handelsblatt. Car manufacturer StreetScooter started in 2010 as a spin-off of the Technischen Hochschule Aachen. The eponymous electric cars produced by StreetScooter reach a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour. The 80-kilometre range makes the StreetScooter suitable for urban distribution.

Deutsche Post DHL bought the manufacturer in 2014, and in the years that followed StreetScooter produced over 9,000 light, electrically powered delivery vehicles, most of which are used by DHL itself. In Dutch cities too, DHL is making full use of the StreetScooter.

Now that it appears that the startup is not profitable, Deutsche Post DHL wants to get rid of StreetScooter. However, it is taking its time to do so. Ceo Frank Appel: "We are not in a hurry, we don't want to get rid of it at any price." Deutsche Post DHL is said to be in talks with several manufacturers, but has not yet found a party willing to pay enough.
