Uber Freight has transported the very first cargo in Europe in collaboration with Heineken. Uber wants to become a major hub between carriers and shippers in Europe too with its freight app.
Uber Freight connects shippers to national carriers with extra capacity. Unlike taxi app Uber, a ride can be booked days in advance. The price is fixed and the freight can be tracked via the app. For shippers, this means more transparency and lower costs, while carriers mainly benefit from quick payment and new orders.
Expansion into Europe
In the US, Uber Freight has been operating for two years. The first European cargo via the platform came from Heineken. The two parties were already working together in the US. "Innovation is a key element within Heineken's business operations. This is no different in our supply chain. This first European freight gives us the chance to get to know Uber Freight in Europe after America. We look forward to further exploring new opportunities like this in the future," said Maarten Koudenburg, Senior Director Supply Chain at Heineken Netherlands.
Efficient and transparent freight market
Uber Freight says the expansion into Europe is in line with its aim to create an "efficient and transparent freight market on an international level", and hopes to become a reliable partner for both carriers and shippers.
