Today, dozens of farmers took action at Albert Heijn and Jumbo distribution centres after all. The judge prohibited the blockade of distribution centres yesterday during summary proceedings, but several activists travelled to the logistics centres in Tilburg, Veghel and Den Bosch after all.
Some 75 farmers surrounded Albert Heijn's distribution centre in Tilburg this morning, reports Omroep Brabant. According to the supermarket chain, the supply of shops was not hindered by this.
Protest distribution centres Jumbo
Actions also took place at Jumbo distribution centres in Veghel and Den Bosch. In Veghel, about 50 tractors blocked the main entrance. Trucks could still reach the site via the back, although they were delayed. The atmosphere seemed amiable; Jumbo employees handed out coffee and biscuits to the farmers. After a warning from the police, the farmers still left.
Judge forbade blockades
Yesterday, the judge ruled in summary proceedings that farmers were not allowed to block distribution centres. The consequences would be too great, not only for supermarkets but also for care institutions, for example. Action group Farmers Defence Force (FDF) called on farmers after the ruling not to protest on Wednesday. The demonstrations that took place today seemed to be coordinated by the FDF. Protests were not only held at distribution centres. Power plants, factories and the NIS were also visited by farmers.
