Retail chain Blokker may want to outsource its distribution operations to logistics service provider SNEL Shared Logistics. The two parties are in far-reaching negotiations on the sale of the transport arm. The takeover will involve transferring Blokker employees to SNEL.

SNEL Shared Logistics, which has been part of Vos Logistics since the beginning of this year, will take over 40 vehicles and loading units from Blokker. The employees will keep their jobs after the sale and also their place of employment in Geldermalsen, where Blokker's largest distribution centre is located. "SNEL has taken over drivers from retailers in the past," says SNEL director Peter de Vries about this. "Experience shows that these drivers fit well into the company's service-oriented culture."

Densified network

SNEL believes it can offer added value to the retailer with its densified network, especially for smaller shipments and more distant branches. Because Blokker is committed to Click & Collect (order online and collect in store), the number of smaller shipments is expected to increase significantly. Large products can be delivered to consumers' homes via the B2C network of SNEL and Vos Logistics. De Vries: "This expansion further densifies our network and allows us to deploy staff and equipment more efficiently. In addition, we ensure fewer movements in inner cities."

SNEL will replace Blokker's vehicles and loading units with eco-friendly trucks suitable for the stricter emission zones in urban areas in the coming years.

Blokker is still discussing the move with employees, works councils and unions.
