Construction market Hornbach has added a new distribution centre in Eindhoven. The 15,000-square-metre building was taken into use at an accelerated pace by XPO Logistics.
According to Hornbach, more and more handymen are ordering their building materials online. Especially when it comes to large or heavy materials. It was therefore decided to scale up the online service considerably.
The distribution centre in Eindhoven, managed by XPO Logistics, was already planned but is now operating at full capacity at an accelerated pace. "To meet the current logistics challenge, additional measures have also been taken in this area," says Evert de Goede, managing director Hornbach Bouwmarkt Nederland. "So that we can deliver orders throughout the country; from sheet material and cement to tools, as quickly as possible at home or directly to the building site."
Hornbach currently has 15 Dutch DIY stores. There, customers can now also shop with an app. The app indicates exactly in which aisle a product, such as a screw, is located, and a QR code can then be used to pay contactlessly at the self-scanning checkouts. "With the Hornbach app and self-scanning checkouts, we are responding to the needs of our customers: faster shopping, faster checkout and thus faster getting started with the project."
