After two years of construction, chip machine manufacturer ASML could finally move into its logistics centre in Veldhoven last month. Now it turns out that the building had the necessary start-up problems in the first weeks. This led to delays in the production process.

ASML invested a billion euros in the construction of a logistics centre, an office and a factory in Veldhoven. Previously, the company's logistics were spread across buildings in Acht, Eersel and Eindhoven. This will now be centrally organised along the A67 in North Brabant.

The first week after the move, however, did not go smoothly, BN De Stem reports. Suppliers could not get rid of their stuff because too many trucks arrived at the same time. Moreover, the automation systems could not be fine-tuned. ASML subsequently decided to put deliveries on hold. As a result, the cleanrooms, where ASML assembles the chip machines, could not be adequately supplied.

The problems eventually led to delays in the production process. Now that the two bottlenecks have been resolved, ASML expects to have stable operations again by the end of this month. Until then, suppliers can only go to a specific time slot. Production backlogs will be rectified before the end of this year, the company promises.
