Trainer and apparel brand New Balance has renewed its partnership with DSV. The renewed agreement includes a tripling of warehousing and distribution capacity. To accommodate the growth, DSV has commissioned a 60,000-square-metre automated warehouse in Venlo.
The two companies have been working together in Europe since 2005. That cooperation will now be tripled. To increase that capacity, DSV's existing warehouse in Venlo has been modernised. This allows DSV to store millions more products for New Balance.
The new setup features an Automatic Storage Retrieval System that can accommodate 241,000 totes. The automated system can process up to 12,500 items per hour. There are 16 workstations for warehouse workers. The warehouse has 6.4 kilometres of conveyor belt.
"By incorporating the new automated processes and goods-to-person approach, we increase efficiency, especially by being able to dedicate the efforts of our professional staff to the most complex tasks in the warehouse and let the automated solutions handle the simple tasks," says Peter van der Maas, Executive Vice President at DSV.
