Albert Heijn's Home Shop Center (HSC) in De Meern is moving to Utrecht. The new location of over 21,000 square metres offers more room for growth. All 800 employees will move with the company from the old premises.
In 2016, the HSC in De Meern - one of eight locations where Albert Heijn collects groceries ordered online for customers - was already remodelled to grow with the rising demand for home delivery. As further growth is not possible at the current location and Albert Heijn says it is important for the locations to meet certain sustainability criteria, the operations of HSC De Meern are moving to a new location in Utrecht.
The building in Utrecht on the Kanaaldijk is one and a half times larger than the current location. This allows the full range to be included under one roof. The HSC offers capacity for 50,000 orders per week. The distribution centre continues to supply the same hubs - Amersfoort, Ede, Nieuwegein and Geldermalsen. Delivery vehicles will also drive from Utrecht directly to customers in the area.
Albert Heijn will spend the next three months making the location operational. The supermarket chain expects to carry out the first runs there in early May.
