Albert Heijn delivered nearly 22 million crates of groceries to people's homes last year. The supermarket chain's online shopping service is now available to 86 per cent of Dutch households.
Albert Heijn announced this ahead of the publication of its annual figures. The wholesale grocer's overall market share remained stable at 34.9 per cent in 2019. Figures on Albert Heijn's online market share are not yet known.
The supermarket previously reported that the online sales channel is booming, partly due to the national rollout of the delivery bundle and a lower minimum order amount on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In 2019, AH opened a fifth Home Shop Center (HSC) in Amsterdam, allowing it to provide groceries to an additional 40,000 households every week. The new location in Amsterdam provides more capacity and better distribution, Albert Heijn said. This also creates room for growth in other regions, with a sixth HSC planned for 2020.
