Albert Heijn is starting electric grocery delivery in Amsterdam. To this end, the supermarket chain has 'greened' 25 of its four hundred diesel trucks.
Supplier Orten, responsible for converting the Albert Heijn trucks, announced this on its website. The revamped vans are fully electric and have a range of 130 kilometres. They can carry 1,300 kilos of products.
Albert Heijn has been delivering in and around Amsterdam using electric or hybrid transport for some time. Since 2016, the wholesale grocer has also been driving an electric cargo bike in the centre of Amsterdam.
Delivery robot
This summer, the supermarket chain will test its own delivery robot in Eindhoven, with Albert Heijn developing a special app for the pilot. Students from the High Tech Campus Eindhoven can use it to place an order at the chain's local branch. The robot uses a virtual map to bring the order to the customer. The condition is that the customer is on the campus and not on the public road.
