Albert Heijn and technology company Nuki are testing delivery with smart locks. Smart locks allow delivery driver to deliver groceries to the house when nobody is home.

The two parties tested the technology last summer among a select test group. In October, the test group was extended to Alkmaar.

The delivery driver rings the smart doorbell, creating a video link to the customer's smartphone. The customer can see on video that the delivery driver is at the door and opens the door remotely.

During the test period - which lasts eight weeks - Albert Heijn and Nuki want to investigate how customers and delivery drivers experience the delivery method. "People are not yet used to having their groceries delivered to their homes while they are not there themselves," says Albert Heijn. The main objective for Albert Heijn is to gain insight into the perceptions and opinions of both customers and deliverers with this new delivery method," says Julie Kuipéri, Innovation Specialist at Albert Heijn.
