Following in the footsteps of Jumbo, Albert Heijn is also betting on flash deliveries. The supermarket chain is going to work more intensively with Thuisbezorgd.nl and Deliveroo. Customers can order more than 1,200 products via the platforms. These are then delivered to their homes within 30 minutes.
The new service operates alongside the standard shopping service via ah.nl. Albert Heijn's shop network forms the basis for flash delivery. Groceries are collected in the shop and delivered to customers' homes by a delivery driver from Thuisbezorgd.nl or Deliveroo. Albert Heijn will start delivering from two shops in Amsterdam next week.
Albert Heijn sees strong annual growth in online grocery shopping. In 2021, e-commerce saw nearly 35 per cent sales growth. With the opening of the eighth Home Shop Center in Roosendaal, the growth of AH Compact to more than 50 cities and the expansion of home delivery options by Deliveroo and Thuisbezorgd.nl, the supermarket chain is continuously scaling up delivery options and capacity.
Jumbo also sees a future in flash deliveries. The supermarket chain already had groceries delivered by Gorillas and last month also took a stake in the flash delivery company. The companies are currently exploring how to work together more intensively.
