Albert Heijn is starting delivery of hot meals. Favourite meals from the Allerhande will be delivered to your door by Thuisbezorgd.nl and Deliveroo.
The Allerhande Kookt service will start from Friday in a large part of Amsterdam. The meals will be prepared by a team of chefs in Amsterdam West. The aim is to deliver the meals to consumers within 30 minutes.
Albert Heijn states that the most popular dishes from Allerhande's recipe database will be included in the range. These include, for example, rendang with string beans, mushroom risotto and stew with celeriac. Consumers will pay between 7.50 and 12.50 euros per meal.
Meal delivery market on the rise
With the new service, the supermarket chain is stepping into a growth market. Earlier this week, the FoodService Institute Netherlands (FSIN) calculated that the market for online food is rapidly gaining ground, with €1.7 billion of turnover in meal delivery. That is an increase of 13.4 per cent.
Marit van Egmond, commercial director at Albert Heijn: "We see an increasing need among our customers for good meals as you would make them yourself, without having to go into the kitchen. That is exactly what we do with Allerhande Kookt: the dishes you would normally cook yourself, we now make for you and are on the table nice and hot within half an hour."
Allerhande Kookt only in Amsterdam for now
Speaking to RTLZ, the supermarket chain says the service is only available in the capital for the time being. "For now, we need to see how this fits in with what consumers want. After that, we can start looking at other cities."
