Albert Heijn is testing a delivery robot on High Tech Campus Eindhoven this summer. Students on campus can place an order online at the AH To Go. The robot will then take care of the (local) delivery.
The supermarket chain revealed this last week at the Digital Food Conference, a conference organised by Emerce and Foodlog.
Albert Heijn is developing a special app for the pilot. Students can use it to place an order at the chain's local branch. The robot uses a virtual map to take the order to the customer. The condition is that the customer is on campus and not on the public road.
Developed by TeleRetail and named Aitonomi, Swiss Post is using the same prototype, which costs between 50,000 and 100,000 euros.
Albert Heijn says it has no concrete plans for further rollout yet.
