Internet giant Alibaba is putting 75 million euros into the construction of the XXL distribution centre at Liège airport. On Wednesday, Alibaba and the Belgian government signed the letter of intent for the property.

In November, it was announced that Chinese Alibaba had its eye on Liege for a European distribution centre. Here it will have a 220,000-square-metre plot at its disposal.

From 2021, Alibaba plans to start shipping online orders from its European DC, which is to serve as a gateway for Chinese products in Europe. The investment will create 3,000 new jobs in Belgium, 900 of which will be direct.
