Amazon is building a thirteenth distribution centre in Germany. The facility in Mönchengladbach is expected to create more than 2,800 jobs.

Germany is Amazon's second most important market after the United States. Still this year, the online shopping giant plans to open the new logistics location to support its growth in Germany. The location is good for 2,800 permanent jobs. After the opening of the DC, Amazon will have as many as 20,000 employees in Germany, spread across 35 locations.

Strikes

Meanwhile, German trade unions continue to protest against working conditions at Amazon distribution centres. On Prime Day -one of the busiest days of the year for Amazon- workers in seven distribution centres laid off work.

For now, Amazon is not bowing to the demands of logistics staff. In recent years, there has traditionally been a strike during every busy period, but it has not yet led to an improvement in working conditions.
