Third-party sellers in Europe and the United States cannot use Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) for the time being. The e-commerce giant is prioritising products that are most needed right now: medical supplies, household and baby products.

The measure takes effect immediately until at least 5 April. Amazon's sales partners, who outsource their logistics to the company, will not be able to place their stocks in other product groups with Amazon until further notice. For products already in its warehouses or still in transit, Amazon will make an exception.

"We understand that this is a change for our sales partners and appreciate their understanding now that we are temporarily prioritising these products," a spokesperson told Independer.

Products that are still accepted by FBA fall within the following product groups:

  • Baby products
  • Health and household
  • Personal care
  • Groceries (groceries)
  • Industrial and scientific
  • Animal supplies

Sellers in other product groups can still sell their items through Amazon without using the company's warehouses. However, they will have to find another service provider willing to store and ship their products.

100,000 extra jobs

The online giant announced yesterday that it plans to expand capacity in the United States as soon as possible. The company is creating 100,000 full-time and part-time jobs in fulfilment centres and its delivery network to meet growing demand in the country. It is also increasing hourly wages globally in April to reward employees for their efforts.
