Amazon will open its first delivery hub in Belgium before the end of this year. A logistics site of around 8,000 square metres will be set up in Antwerp, from where online orders for the region will be delivered.
The delivery centre will receive parcels delivered from sorting centres in France and Germany. The parcels will be driven from Antwerp to online shoppers in the region.
Real estate company Montea, which also developed Amazon's first sorting centre in the Netherlands, is responsible for the construction. The site will have a size of 8,438 square metres, including 5,764 square metres of storage space and 2,157 square metres of office space. Next to the sorting centre will be a parking building with five floors of 8,000 square metres each.
Amazon expects to create 50 jobs at the centre. In addition, 200 drivers will drive to and from the centre to collect parcels. Amazon says it will work with independent delivery companies for this purpose.
