Amazon reportedly wants to convert vacant department stores into distribution centres. In the US, the online giant is in talks with real estate company Simon Property Group.

Forbes writes that Amazon wants to acquire a number of vacant department stores from Simon Property Group. The real estate company owns 11 vacant department stores from bankrupt Sears chain and 63 JCPenney branches. Amazon has its eye on some of these properties as distribution hubs. Vacant department stores are an attractive logistics location for Amazon because they are usually close to residential areas and therefore close to the end customer.

Amazon was running at full speed during the corona crisis. Sales rose 40 per cent to $88.9 billion in the second quarter. Net profit also rose to a record $5.2 billion.
