Belgian online shops may soon also be allowed to prepare orders at night. That is what Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Agenda Alexander de Croo is advocating. The measure should promote economic growth in the country. Kris Peeters, Minister of Work, also expects the abolition of the ban on night work to benefit the country.

Belgium's logistics sector has been in the news a lot negatively recently. Web retailers and consumers are said to divert en masse to the Netherlands and other neighbouring countries because they encounter all kinds of obstacles in Belgium. Because orders cannot be prepared overnight, delivery takes on average two days longer than in the Netherlands. Moreover, labour costs are on average 20 per cent higher than in the Netherlands.
