Magazine Twinkle announces the biggest online retailers for the tenth time in a row. Bol.com remains the largest and distances itself from the rest of the leading group in terms of turnover.

With a turnover of 950 million euros, Bol.com can call itself the very largest web retailer in the Netherlands. The Utrecht-based company saw sales rise by 200 million euros compared to 2016. This puts it well ahead of number two Coolblue (615 million euros) and three Wehkamp (540 million euros).

Striking is the rise of the number two. Coolblue was still in fourth place last year with a turnover of 377 million. This company experienced the biggest growth since a year ago. Also notable in the list is that four of the top ten companies also let other shops sell stuff via their platform. Manufacturers and specialty shops can sell through the platform on bol.com, Zalando, Amazon and Blokker for a fee.

Turnover
Together, these three companies bring in half of the total turnover of the top ten companies, topped by Albert Heijn, Zalando and H&M, among others. In total, the top ten companies account for a combined turnover of 3.9 billion euros, half a billion more than last year.

Besides the biggest companies, Twinkle's editors also made a list of the numbers 101 to 200, the 'Second100.' 'This year, we counted two hundred online retailers with more than 5 million euros of Dutch web turnover. Last year, the lower limit for inclusion was still 3.1 million euros. So it is quite a task to penetrate the publication, something that AO.nl, Bloomon, Made.com and Picnic, among others, have managed to do,' said editor-in-chief Arjan van Oosterhout during the magazine's presentation.

It is the tenth time that magazine Twinkle in cooperation with the Hogeschool van Amsterdam researches the biggest online retailers.
